Kanaka Durga Temple

Dedicated to Mother Kanakadurgeswari, the Kanaka Durga Temple is synonymous with Vijayawada. Situated atop the indrakila hill on the banks of the Krishna river, the temple is said to self manifested, and hence is considered to be very powerful. Kanaka Durga, the goddess of power, riches and benevolence is the presiding deity of Vijayawada. The four-foot high icon of the Kanaka Durga is bedecked in glittering ornaments and bright flowers, with eight powerful weapons in eight hands. The goddess is in a standing posture over the demon Mahishashura and piercing him with her trident.

As the sun peeps in from the eastern horizon, the chanting of mantras and devotional music tranquilizes the atmosphere, creating a celestial ambience.
