Vijayawada

Lying on the banks of the mighty Krishna River is Vijayawada, a major railway junction on the eastern coast of India from Kolkotta to Chennai. About 265km east of Hyderabad, this city is a major industrial centre and a fairly chaotic town. Vijayawada is the most convenient base for the tourist visiting the nearby places like Amravathi, one of the major Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India. Vijayawada itself has numerous important Hindu temples including the Kanaka Durga Temple on Indrakila Hill, and also 2000 years old Jain temples. Derived from the word "Vijaya", meaning victory, Vijayawada is the third largest city of Andhra pardesh. Altogether Vijayawada is a colourful place with varied sights and hence can be termed as a business cum pilgrim cum tourist centre.
