Charminar – Work of Exquisitness

Charminar - one of the most projected monument of India on television, is not only the pride of Hyderabad, but of whole India. Visiting this more than 400 years old structure is a great experience. Built in 1591-92 by the Qutb Shahi king Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah, this magnificent edifice is a structure of made of Char + minars (meaning, four + huge pillars).

The surroundings have numerous shops of pearl and perfume, which are the major attractions of Hyderabad. As you move around this architectural splendour, you can smell the fragrances of Persia, the attars of Afghanistan and the scents of Saudi Arabia. There is also a small mosque on the roof of the minar.

Rising to an height of 180 ft., the minar also has stairs, (which is closed now) which takes one to the top of the minar. Once at the top one can get an panoramic view of the surroundings areas, but some unfortunate incidents led to the closer of the stairs.
