Dussehra Festival – The Most Exotic Time in Mysore

Dussehra is one of the most popular Hindu festival that goes on for 10 days and is generally held in the month of October. The first six days of the festival are celebrated in the honour of goddess Saraswati. Eight day is dedicated to Durga and ninth day is for Lakshmi- the goddess of wealth. Dussehra festival of Mysore is noted for the grand celebrations that are carried out in the Mysore palace. Do not miss seeing the 200 kg weighing gold throne of the Woodeyar kings, that is displayed in the palace during this festival. The whole palace is illuminated with lamps that makes it look like a cradle of light. Another important attraction includes the various rituals and pujas that are performed by the royal family in the Mysore palace or the Amba Vilas palace. The king is given a ceremonial bath on the first day and he worships the family deities accompanied by sacred chats and music. Then on after taking blessings and greetings of the religious priests, he sits on the royal throne. The sound of the trumpets and conchs then announce the beginning of the Dussehra processions.
