Rail – The major railhead closest to Nagarhole is Mysore, 80 km. Tourists can get a taxi or auto rickshaw to reach the wildlife park from Mysore.
Road – The nearest town is Kutta 7 km way. And other major towns that are accessible by road are are Madikeri (93 km), Mysore (80 km) and Bangalore (236 km). The state transport buses and taxis are available for road transport. The bus stand is a 1-km walk from the Kabini river lodge.

Nagarhole National Park – Karnataka's Most Preserved Wildlife Hub

Nagarhole National Park ,that is also known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is situated at a distance of 94 kms from Mysore. This famous wildlife park is a part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, and has a great tiger population. Lying in the Coorg and Mysore district of Karnataka, Nagarhole sanctuary is 644 sq km in size.

This park is counted as one of the best preserved national parks in India and also provides excellent trekking routes for the adventure savvy Accommodation is also provided by the Forest Department, that manages two rest houses, but reservation has to be made well in advance through the Forest Department offices in Mysore or Bangalore.

Attractions of Nagarhole Wildlife Park – Flora and Fauna

Look for some spotted deers behind the swampy bushes (have grown due to heavy rainfall) and brush past the floral species of teak and eucalyptus to find monkeys and birds communicating in their own language. The most commonly sighted animals is the sanctuary includes tiger, leopard, panther, sloth bear, gaur, elephant, sambhar, chital and other mammals like muntjac, the tiny mouse deer, giant squirrel, slender loris, langurs, wild boar, pangolin and macaques.

Tips and Precaution to Abide By

The best time to visit Nagarhole National park is during the months of October to April. Though its open all round the year one should avoid going in the month of June to September (monsoons), as during this time leeches and dense undergrowth proliferate in the forest. Tourists are advised to reach the park before dusk, as the roads are blocked after 6 pm.

Getting There to Nagarhole – Reaching the Wild Arena

The nearest airports are Mysore(90 kms) and Bangalore (236 kms). From these two airports, the tourists can board a flight to their desired destination. The Bangalore airport is well connected with all the major cities in India as well as the world, through Indian and Jet Airways. Mysore railhead is the nearest railway station. From here tourists have to hire state transport buses and taxis, that are freely available for road transport.
Nagarhole National Park is well connected by road with the major towns like Madikeri (93 km), Mysore (96 km) and Bangalore (236 km). The tourists can board a flight or catch a train from these towns and cities.
